Statement from the Chair of the Council, Cllr. Caroline Wilson.
Chardstock Parish Council joins the rest of the country in expressing its profound sorrow on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Her service to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, throughout her long and active life was unparalleled. We offer our deepest condolences to her family and all those who mourn her loss. God Save the King.
Arrangements for the Formal National Period of Mourning:
The Guildhall in Axminster and the East Devon District Council Office in Honiton will open a Condolence Book which Chardstock Parish Residents can also sign. An online Book of Condolence is available at:
Please place any flowers in memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the Chardstock Parish Church or on the Minster Green in Axminster.
Flowers will remain there until the day after the Funeral (20th September.) We respectfully ask that all flowers laid have the plastic/cellophane removed beforehand. Please do not leave non-floral tributes such as candles, artwork, soft toys etc as the protocol for such tributes prohibit this and they will be removed.
Flags and Proclamations
The Proclamation will be read in London on the 10th September at 11am from St. James’ Palace and then in other cities the day after (Exeter at 1pm 11th September). Locally it will be the day after that (12th), located at East Devon District Council Offices, Blackdown House, Border Road, Heathpark Industrial Estate, Honiton, Devon EX14 1EJ
Union flags will be flown at half-mast until the London Proclamation is read and will then remain at masthead until 1pm on the following day whereupon they will be returned to half-mast for the remainder of the Mourning Period until they are re-flown at the mast head on the day after the State Funeral (20th).
Both the day of the State Funeral (19th) and the following day have been designated as National Holidays.
